As a University/College Student, you feel like you need to plan your whole career in one day. But relax, it is a journey. Take things one step at a time:
Build your foundation - your first degree/diploma set the foundation of basic knowledge in business, math, tech, whichever you choose.
Work Experience - work in jobs in the field of study during school breaks, or for a couple of years. This helps you learn the field and the difference between studying the area and working in it.
Ask questions - ask questions of coworkers, profs, and your bosses about the industry and their own journey. It gives you information about what is available and the good and bad of a particular area.
Attend info sessions - while in University/College or afterward, attend career fairs or info session on career paths. - for example BCCPA has a Campus Ambassador program that provides info for future CPAs.
During your career - Take the next step - If you find the next level you are interested in, take the class, certificate, or designation. Education is never a waste, and what you learn in a specific certificate or designation like CPA improves your opportunities, knowledge, and earning potential.
All these step can take time during your career, but the payoff is an interesting, fulfilling career and journey.
